About Spring Gully Conservation Park

Spring Gully Conservation Park is located approximately 6 kilometers northwest of Clare in South Australia’s Mid North region. Covering an area of rugged terrain that includes rocky ridges, deep gorges, and steep slopes, the park protects significant remnant native vegetation and provides habitat for numerous native species. The park’s vegetation mainly features South Australian Blue Gum woodlands and dense shrublands with several endemic species. Spring-fed creeks run through the park, supporting a diverse ecosystem and offering a refreshing environment for visitors. Historically, the area was used by the Peramangk and Ngadjuri Aboriginal people and contains cultural significance tied to their traditional land use. Established in 1972, the park appeals strongly to outdoor enthusiasts with its network of well-maintained trails, picnic areas, and lookout points. Popular hiking routes offer dramatic views of the Clare Valley and the surrounding hills. Birdwatching is a favorite activity here, with regular sightings of species such as the rare Glossy Black Cockatoo. Visitors can explore the Spring Gully Loop Track or opt for shorter circuits along creek beds and ridge tops. The park’s proximity to the Clare Valley wine region also makes it an excellent stopover for combining nature exploration with regional tourism. During cooler months, the park transforms with wildflowers in bloom, while warmer seasons offer ideal conditions for early morning walks. Its natural beauty, accessibility, and ecological importance make Spring Gully Conservation Park a significant conservation area and a rewarding destination for visitors interested in South Australia’s unique landscapes.
